Passo Tremalzo is one of the most famous mountain routes around Lake Garda, combining spectacular scenery, historic military roads and a true sense of adventure.
The ride begins in Riva del Garda and follows the famous Strada del Ponale, a road carved into the cliffs above the lake. After passing Lake Ledro, the route continues higher into the mountains towards Passo Tremalzo, where the landscape becomes wilder, quieter and increasingly dramatic.
At the top, the reward is not a single viewpoint but an entire mountain world of panoramic roads, alpine scenery and endless horizons. The route follows historic military roads built more than a century ago, with impressive switchbacks, tunnels and breathtaking views around every corner.
One of the great advantages of this tour is its flexibility. Depending on conditions, fitness level and personal preferences, several descent options are available. The classic route continues through Passo Nota and back towards Riva del Garda, while another spectacular option descends to Limone sul Garda and returns by ferry across the lake.
This is a full day in the mountains, combining history, nature and some of the most memorable cycling roads in the Garda region.

- Do I need an e-bike for Passo Tremalzo?
- An e-bike is strongly recommended: a full-suspension one with a big battery. But the e-bike does not do all the work. The battery may not be enough for such a long climb, so we ride mostly in Eco mode. You will pedal a lot, for many hours.
- How fit do I need to be for Passo Tremalzo?
- You should ride often and feel good on long climbs. It is a full day: 67 km, 2200 m of climbing and 6–8 hours on the bike. Not sure? Write to me before you book. We can start higher and make the day shorter, or choose the Passo Nota tour: views in the same league, with much less climbing.
- Is there a shorter version of the Tremalzo tour?
- Yes. We can start higher, so the day is shorter and there is less climbing. You still ride the famous military road. Write to me before you book, and I will tell you which version is better for you.
- What is the best season for Passo Tremalzo?
- Usually late May to October — but the snow decides, not the calendar. In warm years the pass stays rideable into November. Outside summer the huts up there are closed, so we plan food and water without them.

Wow! That was awesome! I'm not a very confident cyclist, but Lex made this trip doable and pleasant. The route to Passo Tremalzo is rather challenging (at least for me), but it gave me unforgettable emotions, breathtaking views and added to my cycling skills and confidence. I had a prefect e-MTB tour over the Tremalzo Pass. Well planned, stunning views and a tour guide that knew all the good places to stop to get the best views over lake garda. I can really recommend anyone book Lex for guide tour if they would like to see the backroads of the mountains.
